ISSX Awards

Call for Nominations

The ISSX award program was established to recognize excellent scientific and service achievements in the scientific fields covered by the Society.  At the 21st North American ISSX Meeting, ISSX will be presenting two awards, the North American Scientific Achievement Award and the North American New Investigator Award

The call for nominations for the 21st North American ISSX Meeting Awards closed July 14, 2017.

North American Scientific Achievement Award

This award is presented to an ISSX member who has made major scientific contributions to the field within the North American region. Its purpose is to recognize meritorious contributions by senior or mid-career scientists that have had a major impact on research in the field.  The award will consist of a plaque or medal, an honorarium, and travel support to an ISSX regional meeting where a lecture will be presented. 

The North American Scientific Achievement Award is named in honor of Ronald W. Estabrook and was sponsored by XenoTech.

North American New Investigator Award

This award is presented to ISSX members who have made significant contributions to the field during their early career years (normally within 5 -10 years from the time of receiving his/her highest earned degree). The purpose of these awards is to encourage and recognize developing scientists who are active in the field within the North American region.  Each award will consist of a plaque or medal, an honorarium, and travel support to an ISSX meeting.

The North American New Investigator Award is named in honor of James R. Gillette. 


Nomination Requirements

Nominations of candidates for the respective ISSX Awards must be made by a member of ISSX but may be seconded by an individual who is not an ISSX-member.

Required Supporting Documentation:

  • A nominating letter to the chairman of the ISSX Awards Committee;
  • No less than two and no more than four supporting letters presenting the case for the candidate's nomination.  (The maximum length of each letter should not exceed two pages);
  • A summary detailing the relevant achievements of the candidate (maximum 2 - 3 pages);
  • A curriculum vitae including a bibliography (note bibliography and not biography) of the candidate;
  • A high resolution headshot photograph (color preferred) in .jpg format.

Selection Procedure

Nominations will be reviewed by the Society Awards Committee consisting of seven members of the Council of ISSX and Nomination Committee, including the President-Elect who serves as committee chair. The committee will forward the names of the selected awardees for review and final approval to the ISSX President.


Additional Information

An honorarium, travel support, up to two nights lodging, and complimentary meeting registration are provided to the awardees.
