Plenary Lecture 4: Pharmacogenomics to Parmaco-omics: Precision Medicine and Drug Response
Richard Weinshilboum, Mayo Clinic

This presentation will trace the evolution of pharmacogenomics in the “Post-Genome Project” world to begin the process of the incorporation of multiple “omics” techniques to address individual variation in drug response phenotypes, ie to become “pharmaco-omics”. The treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) will be used to illustrate this process—with a secondary focus on the need for novel computational techniques in order to analyze the large datasets generated in the course of this type of research.
